WILKINS CHIMNEY SWEEP was established in 1895 by Tom Wilkins in Newbury, Berkshire. At that time he used a bicycle with his brush and rods strapped to the cross bar, understandably covering a slightly smaller area than we do now.
The business was passed down through the family until in 1998, after thorough training, Peter Harris took over the business from the incumbent ‘Mr Wilkins’ and developed it to the size it is today.
In 2011, Peter, and his wife, Louise, franchised WILKINS CHIMNEY SWEEP to expand the business, whilst still maintaining the quality for which we are known, and to provide the rest of the UK with trained, professional ‘WILKINS’ chimney sweeps.
We still uphold the traditional values and our sweeping practices remain the same, but we now use a vacuum to complement the traditional rods and brushes, and we travel by van not bicycle!
We sweep chimneys all year round and, in addition, we also offer cage, cap and cowl fitting, as well as removing bird’s nests and providing a CCTV survey service in some areas.
We support local communities with discounts for retired persons and serving members of the UK Armed Forces, as well as our Neighbour Link option. .
Look out for our distinctive WILKINS CHIMNEY SWEEP vans with their smart black, white and yellow livery.
